Microsoft has released a fresh emergency update for Windows 11 users to fix the Outlook crashing issue that appeared after the January 2026 update.
The company says the latest patch fixes Outlook crashes and problems related to cloud-based files like OneDrive.
Emergency Update Fixes Outlook and Cloud Storage Problems
After installing the January Windows update, several users faced issues while opening or saving files stored in cloud services. Apps became slow, showed error messages or stopped responding.
Microsoft confirmed that the emergency update fixes a bug where apps, including Outlook failed to work properly with cloud storage such as OneDrive and Dropbox.
Outlook Crashing Issue on Windows 11 Explained
The Outlook crashing issue on Windows 11 mostly affected users who saved Outlook PST files on OneDrive. In these cases, Outlook stopped responding and sometimes failed to open again.
Users were forced to close Outlook using Task Manager or restart their systems. Microsoft says the new update prevents Outlook from freezing and crashing in such situations.
January Windows Update Caused the Issue
Microsoft clarified that the problem started after Windows updates released on or after January 13, 2026. These updates caused some apps to crash or show errors while accessing cloud-stored files.
The emergency patch improves system stability and allows smooth access to cloud files without interruptions.
Previous Emergency Update for Windows 11
Earlier, Microsoft also released another emergency update to fix a serious Windows 11 bug. That issue caused PCs to restart suddenly when users tried to shut down or put their system into hibernation.
The problem mainly affected devices using Secure Launch a security feature that protects systems during startup.
With the latest emergency update, Microsoft aims to improve Windows 11 performance and fix Outlook-related problems quickly.
