Salil Parekh Reveals Why AI Will Not Replace Engineers — Indian IT Jobs Are Safe!

Infosys CEO Salil Parekh has reassured software engineers and the IT industry that artificial intelligence (AI) will not suddenly replace human jobs. In a recent talk at the India AI Impact Summit, he explained that AI is a tool to improve work efficiency, not a replacement for skilled engineers.

AI Will Help, Not Replace Engineers

Many people think AI will take IT jobs. But Salil Parekh, the CEO of Infosys, said this is not true. He said AI can do some work in software development, but big companies still use old and new systems that need engineers. These systems need engineers to integrate, maintain, secure, and test them—tasks that AI alone cannot do.

Salil Parekh said, “Whenever a technology comes in, it is a brownfield area — somewhat old and new. Greenfield is when something is entirely new. What is likely to happen is that we need to coexist with everything because everything will not be replaced overnight.” This means engineers will continue to play an important role in IT.

New Opportunities in AI

Instead of reducing jobs, AI is creating new opportunities. Salil Parekh pointed out that Infosys is focusing on six key growth areas where AI is important. These include AI engineering services, modernizing older IT systems, preparing data for AI, and deploying trustworthy AI solutions.

These areas will require skilled engineers with strong knowledge of technology and industry-specific experience. Instead of losing their jobs, engineers need to learn new skills to keep their jobs in IT.

Salil Parekh also said that Infosys will keep hiring a lot of people. This year, the company plans to recruit about 20,000 new graduates in India. This proves that AI is not reducing jobs in the IT industry. On the contrary, engineers will have to upskill and adapt to new technologies.

Optimism for the IT Industry

The Infosys CEO is optimistic about the growth of the Indian IT sector. He mentioned that business conditions are improving, especially in the United States. Easier rules and lower interest rates can make companies spend more on technology, which is good news for Indian IT firms. Salil Parekh thinks the Indian IT industry is ready for the AI boom. AI will change the way engineers work, but it will also create new job opportunities, allow people and machines to work together, and help improve productivity.
