What is EPF and How It Works
The EPF is a retirement savings plan where both the employee and employer deposit a small part of the salary every month. This money stays in your EPF account and earns interest.
You can take out this money when you retire or change jobs. You can also withdraw part of it early for important reasons like medical emergencies, marriage, education, or home construction.
Before applying to withdraw EPF money, make sure these things are done:
- Your UAN (Universal Account Number) is active.
- Your bank account is linked with your EPF account.
- Your Aadhaar and PAN are updated on the EPFO portal.
- Your mobile number is linked with Aadhaar to get OTP.
Once all this is ready, you can easily withdraw your EPF money online.
How to Withdraw EPF Money Online steps
- Visit the official EPFO website:- https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/
- Log in using your UAN number and password.
- Click on “Online Services” and then select “Claim”.
- You’ll see your bank details on the screen. If everything looks correct click on “Proceed for Online Claim”.
- Choose “PF Advance (Form 31)” and select why you want to withdraw — for example, medical emergency, marriage, or education.
- Enter the amount you need and upload a clear copy of your bank passbook or cancelled cheque if asked.
- Click on “Get Aadhaar OTP”, enter the OTP sent to your phone, and submit your claim.
Your request will be checked by EPFO staff. If everything is correct the money will be transferred to your bank account within 3 to 7 days. You can then withdraw it from ATM, mobile banking, or directly from your bank.
