Meta strengthens AI strategy with Manus acquisition
Meta Platforms announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Manus AI, a Singapore-based developer of general-purpose AI agents, marking another major step in Meta’s aggressive push into artificial intelligence (AI). The deal supports Meta’s long-term goal of expanding AI tools across both consumer and business platforms.
About Manus AI and its rapid growth
Manus AI was first founded in China and later moved its headquarters to Singapore. Earlier this year, the company launched its first AI agent that can do difficult jobs like market research, coding, and analyzing data.
In just eight months, Manus AI reported an average yearly revenue of over $100 million with a revenue run rate of more than $125 million. This highlight that strong demand for AI automation tools.
Meta plans to scale Manus AI services
Meta stated that the acquisition will help accelerate AI innovation for businesses and integrate advanced automation into products like the Meta AI assistant.
“Manus makes daily work easier for people and businesses. We plan to expand this service to many more companies globally,” Meta said in its official statement.
Manus will continue offering its subscription-based AI services without interruption. The company did not share how much the deal cost.
Manus background and funding history

Manus started as a project under Chinese start-up Butterfly Effect (Monica.Im) before becoming an independent company. It gained attention earlier this year after claiming its chatbot outperformed OpenAI’s DeepResearch in certain benchmarks.
In April, Manus raised $75 million in Series B funding, led by U.S. venture capital firm Benchmark, with backing from Tencent and HongShan Capital Group (HSG), formerly Sequoia China.
The company shifted its headquarters to Singapore in June as part of its global expansion strategy, following layoffs at its Beijing office.
CEO comments on joining Meta
Xiao Hong, CEO of Manus, said the move will help the company grow while keeping its independence.
“Joining Meta will help us grow stronger without changing how Manus works or makes decisions,” he said.
Manus also maintains strong ties with Chinese tech firms, including a strategic partnership with Alibaba’s Qwen AI team, announced earlier this year.
Meta’s aggressive AI expansion continues
The Meta–Manus deal aligns with Meta’s broader strategy of acquiring specialized AI start-ups to gain talent and speed up development of its Llama open-source AI models.
Recently, Meta invested $14.3 billion in Scale AI, bringing founder Alexandr Wang into its AI leadership team. The company also acquired AI-wearables start-up Limitless strengthening its AI hardware ambitions.
Growing interest from major tech companies
Manus AI tools have already attracted attention from major technology firms. In October, Microsoft began testing Manus AI on Windows 11, enabling users to create websites using local files.
To date, Manus claims to have processed over 147 trillion tokens and supported more than 80 million virtual computers, offering both free and paid AI subscription plans.
Meta confirmed that Manus employees will join Meta’s AI teams, as the company continues to recruit top AI talent from competitors like OpenAI and Google.
