Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Update: Launch Delayed Again, Government Issues New Timeline

New Delhi: Big news for Indian Railways passengers! The much-awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will take more time before hitting the tracks. Earlier scheduled for December 2024, the launch has been delayed due to design improvements and supply chain challenges, according to the Ministry of Railways.

The Railway Board has written to the RDSO (Research Designs and Standards Organisation) and all zonal general managers, highlighting certain deficiencies such as sharp edges near berths, tough-to-clean gaps, and rough window handle edges. These issues must be fixed before the train is cleared for operations at speeds up to 160 km/h.

All RDSO Conditions Must Be Fulfilled

The ministry has made it clear that no service will start until all RDSO requirements are met. On September 1, 2025. RDSO submitted an updated list of improvements, which will be reviewed by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS).Only after CCRS approval will the Vande Bharat Sleeper return to the tracks.
