Kisan Diwas 2025, also known as National Farmers’ Day, is annually observed in the entire nation of India to mark the hard work and dedication of the farmers to the Indian economy. It is the birthday of the fifth Prime Minister of the nation, Chaudhary Charan Singh, who was an ardent voice for the farmers and the nation of rural India. The Government of India announced this day to be the National Farmers’ Day in the year 2001.

Chaudhary Charan Singh played an important role in the implementation of land reforms and always strived to ensure that farmers’ rights were not hampered. His vision is even today influencing the policies related to agriculture.

Kisan Diwas in the year 2025 has the theme “Viksit Bharat 2047 – The Role of FPOs in Globalising Indian Agriculture.”

The topics this year include improving Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and leveraging technology to make Indian farmers competitive in international markets. The aim is to ensure that farmers earn higher incomes, increase productivity, and make farming sustainable.

Top 10 Government Schemes for Farmers

On the occasion of Kisan Diwas 2025, a look at the top government schemes launched for farmers’ welfare:

1. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN)

Under the central scheme, the eligible farmers get ₹6,000 per year as income support. It is transferred directly to bank accounts in three installments of ₹2,000.

2. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)

This crop insurance scheme covers farmers in case of loss due to natural calamity, pest, and disease. Its premium rates are low-2% for Kharif, 1.5% for Rabi, and 5% for horticulture crops.

3. Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Scheme

The KCC scheme has aimed at providing easy and timely credit to the farmers. The loan up to ₹3 lakh was made available at subsidised interest rate of 4% on prompt repayment.

4. Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY)

The PMKSY aims at water conservation with the slogan “Per Drop More Crop.” Under this scheme, drip and sprinkler irrigation is promoted with subsidies to bring upward efficiency in water use.

5. e-National Agriculture Market (e-NAM)

e-NAM is an online trading platform that connects APMC mandis across over India. It aims at transparent pricing and better value for the farming community.

6. Soil Health Card (SHC) Scheme

The SHC scheme provides farmers with a soil test report containing information on 12 nutrient parameters, besides fertilizer recommendations to enable them to maintain good health of the soil and prevent excessive use of fertilizers.

7. Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY)

This scheme encourages organic farming through farmer clusters. The financial support is given at ₹31,500 per hectare, including ₹15,000 directly to farmers.

8. Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF)

AIF provides financial assistance for building storage, cold chains, and warehouses. Farmers and agri-entrepreneurs get 3% interest subvention on loans up to ₹2 crore.

9. PM-KUSUM Scheme

The PM-KUSUM Scheme facilitates the installation of solar pumps and the solarization of existing pumps. Farmers get a subsidy of 30% to 50%, besides an opportunity to sell extra electricity to gain more income.

10. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maan-Dhan Yojana (PM-KMY)

The minimum age for small and marginal farmers is 18 years, while the maximum age is 40 years. After attaining 60 years of age, beneficiaries are entitled to a monthly pension of ₹3,000.

Kisan Diwas 2025: The recent Kisan Diwas or Farmer’s Day Celebrations in India emphasize the continued support of the government towards the farming community in terms of financial assistance, agricultural insurance schemes, technological implementation, and sustainable agricultural systems. The emphasis on FPOs and technological advancements in the agricultural sector takes India towards Viksit Bharat in 2047.
