Tejas Crash Dubai: A major tragedy struck the Dubai Airshow 2025 on Friday when an IAF Tejas fighter jet crashed during a flying demonstration around 2:10 p.m. local time. The Tejas aircraft, India’s indigenous Light Combat Aircraft developed by HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited), went down near the Al Maktoum International Airport, sending thick black smoke into the sky and alarming spectators at the venue.

Wing Commander Namansh Syal Identified as Tejas Crash Pilot

The Tejas crash pilot name has been confirmed as Wing Commander Namansh Syal, a 37-year-old Indian Air Force officer. Syal, originally from Patialkadh in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district, lost his life while flying the Tejas fighter jet at the prestigious Dubai Air Show.

This tragic incident marks the second Tejas crash in 20 months. Earlier, on March 12, 2024, another LCA Tejas jet crashed near Jaisalmer soon after participating in a tri-services exercise.

IAF Expresses Deep Grief; Court of Inquiry Ordered

The IAF conveyed that it is “deeply saddened by the loss” of its courageous pilot and assured unwavering support to the officer’s family during this painful time. A court of inquiry has been ordered to determine the Tejas crash reason and investigate what led to the accident at the Dubai Airshow.

Tributes Pour In for Naman Syal

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu shared a heartfelt tribute on X, calling Wing Commander Namansh Syal “a brave, dutiful, and courageous pilot.” He said that entire nation mourns the loss of “Himachal’s brave son” who died in the Tejas crash in Dubai.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed anguish, saying he was deeply pained by the loss of “a brave and courageous IAF pilot.” He added that the nation stands firmly with the family during this tragic moment.

Dubai Confirms Tejas Fighter Jet Crash at Airshow

Dubai’s state-run media office confirmed:

An Indian Tejas fighter jet performing in the flying display at the Dubai Airshow crashed today, resulting in the tragic death of its pilot.”

Emergency teams immediately rushed to the site as sirens echoed across the runway area.

Tejas Fighter Jet: India’s Indigenous Pride

The LCA Tejas, a 4.5-generation, single engine multirole fighter, has been a key symbol of India’s growing defence capabilities. Designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency and manufactured by HAL the aircraft was first inducted into the IAF in 2016 with No. 45 Squadron ‘Flying Daggers’.

Ministry of Defence Rejects ‘Oil Leakage’ Claims

A day before the crash, the Defence Ministry dismissed social media claims alleging an “oil leakage” in the Tejas jet during the Dubai Airshow. The ministry called the viral videos “fake” and accused certain accounts of spreading misinformation to undermine the aircraft’s reliability.

India’s Strong Presence at Dubai Airshow 2025

India showcased its growing defence strength at the Dubai Air Show 2025, held from November 17–21. The IAF’s Suryakiran Aerobatic Team and the HAL Tejas display were major highlights. The delegation was led by Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth along with senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces.

The Dubai Airshow remains a global hub for aerospace innovation next generation technologies, major aircraft deals, and defence partnerships.
